That’s why passive income opportunities like print-on-demand (POD) merchandise are growing in popularity among therapists. With POD, you can create income streams without taking on extra clients or putting in additional therapy hours. The best part? No artistic skill is required to make this happen!

June 2023 - Sensory Board Therapeutic Art Making Intervention & Tips for Running (and Filling) Groups Using Creative Interventions

Age range: 2+

Diagnosis: Any

Supplies Needed: Stiff board (I used a chalkboard from the Dollar Store, but a clipboard, cut up binder, etc would work well as an alternative!), Sensory friendly textures, textiles, items, etc (Depending on which supplies you have available, this can change but here is what I used: Car washing mit, Felt, Loofah, Sandpaper, Disposable feather duster, Brillo pad, Lego baseplate, Reversible sequin fabric, Paper wrapping bow), fabric tape or adhesive (I used no-heat adhesive fabric tape to stick everything to the board and I was very, very happy with the results), scissors, ruler, paint marker or any writing item appropriate for the board you choose

Uses: This is a great intervention for grounding and sensory stimulation for any aged clients, I love and use mine regularly!

Artistic skills needed: None!

Telehealth Modifications: With advanced preparation, you could have your client find and bring sensory textures in their home to arrange and utilize. This could also be done as “homework”. Another option would be if you are comfortable mailing your clients art materials, you could send a sensory care package of items to create a version of this.
